Google Launches a New Video App Tangi

Learning new things is in the bones of humans. Whenever there is something new to learn, the human brain strives hard to learn it as soon as possible and as perfectly as possible. And since technology has advanced so much in the last few years, learning new things has become quite easy. And there have been different platforms that people like to learn about new things, Facebook and YouTube are on top of that list.

But recently this list has gotten diverse with the inclusion of Google’s new experiment, Tangi. The platform is as unique as its name. The name may be referred to the tangible things, that is why called Tangi. Whatever the reason behind it is, the platform could prove a source of fresh air for people who are looking for new things. This platform is a network dedicated to short DIY videos, hacks, and tutorials. Now it is a new concept as DIY has always been a small part of big platforms. But it is changed now. Now DIY videos have a platform of their own. Initially, the platform is launched on the web and iOS as it is in the initial and experiment stages.

Do you remember Pinterest? Many of you even have the Pinterest app on their phones. Where images are shared from different sources by different users. You can pin the image on your profile to see it whenever you want. You can make boards to save the images having the same concepts. And Pinterest defines itself perfectly on the Google Play Store and App Store saying “Looking for inspiration? Whether you’re designing a home or searching for travel ideas, good ideas start on Pinterest.” Ok, you might be thinking that what does Tangi has to do with Pinterest. The answer to this question is, Tangi looks like a mirror image of Pinterest. And the only difference between both platforms is that Tangi is purely consists of videos.

Google describes Tangi by saying, “Tangi is a social video sharing app to learn new things every day and you can try them yourself too. Take your artistic, DIY, cooking, and styling skills to the next level in under 60 seconds. Use “Try It” to share your take of the projects back to the community. Snackable creativity to craft, cook, create!” And just like Pinterest, Google says that Tangi will provide a dose of inspiration to people to do something new and learn new things in their daily lives.

Now anyone can share their creative ideas on this platform and tell the world what are you up to. Google says that it is working with the creators who have already made videos of these kinds. Google says that “Whether you love crafting, cooking, cosmetics or clothing, Tangi has 60-second videos to help you try something new—and a place to share it back too. You can also share a re-creation of things you tried out with Tangi’s “Try It” feature, which helps build a community between creators and their fans.”

So just like Instagram, only 60-second videos can be uploaded and shared on the platform. Some people are calling it the rival of TikTok. But unlike TikTok, it is not only focused on infotainment. There are many other categories that the app focuses on just like crafting, cooking, painting, etc. Tangi founder, Coco Mao says that “We only focus on DIY and creativity content. Our platform’s goal is to help people learn to craft, cook and create with quick one-minute videos. We designed Tangi to make it easier for users to find a lot of high-quality how-to videos.”

Coco Mao also added that the idea came when she saw how her “smartphone-challenged” mother had learned how to paint by following video tutorials. And if there are other people like her out there who are learning new things from different platforms then why not create a platform that is specific to the DIY category.

The “Try It” feature is best for this kind of situation. Users can upload their images of the recreation of the original video as a way to interact with people and the maker of the original video.

The app is free to use on the web and iOS devices and there are no ads on the app yet. It is also not monetized currently. And the ability to upload videos on the platform is not available to everyone yet. And as it is in experiment stages, let’s see how this pans out for users and creators.
